Swearing in Takes Place Today
SAN ANTONIO – Today Lori Massey Brissette was appointed by the Governor’s office to the open 4th Court of Appeals, Place 3 seat left vacant by Justice Patricia Alvarez. The Fourth Court of Appeals has jurisdiction over all civil, criminal and family law cases in 32 counties in South Texas and the Texas Hill Country with the most populous county being Bexar County.
Brissette’s appointment is critical to ensuring that the Court can continue to address the backlog of cases that has built up over the last several years. Her legal experience as well as her experience as a transformation executive focused on improving the
performance of organizations is particularly relevant to the post she now takes.
“I have, as an attorney, a litigant, and the mother of a son who was killed, personally endured the impact of a system in which justice can seem out of reach. I’m committed and prepared to jump in on day one to help ensure justice delayed is not justice denied in South Texas,” said Brissette.
While Brissette must still face opponent Justice Luz Elena Chapa for Place 4 in the November General Election, she is committed to working with Justice Chapa as a colleague to address the needs of the community.
Brissette will be sworn in today, July 8th.
